At the Laredo Port of Entry, a routine check by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers led to the arrest of a man on a felony warrant for sexual abuse of a child. The individual, Alejandro Gloria Villegas, faced charges out of Fort Bend County, Texas, for continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14. The apprehension was made at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge this past Sunday, as detailed in an official release from CBP earlier this week.
According to the CBP's statement, officers at the bridge directed Villegas, a lawful permanent U.S. resident and Mexican citizen, to a secondary inspection. Utilizing biometric verification, and federal law enforcement databases, they not only confirmed his identity but also unearthed the outstanding warrant. "This arrest is a significant step towards ensuring the safety and security of our community," said Port Director Albert Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. Flores highlighted the role of CBP officers in preventing a "dangerous alleged sexual predator from causing any more harm to today’s youth."
The National Crime Information Center (NCIC), a pivotal tool in law enforcement agencies’ arsenal, equipped officers to make this arrest. Following the arrest, Villegas was transported to Webb County jail where the warrant will undergo adjudication.
